WHY BABES ARE GOING FOR FEMALE CONDOMS

Spread the love

The female condom has been growing in popularity since it was launched in Nigeria in 2008 in a grand way by the Society for Family Health. They also commenced a campaign tagged “Universal Access to the Female Condom”, and ever since then, more and more women have begin to embrace the female condoms. It also comes with a lot of benefits which might also explain why it was such an easy task. In this report, City People Fashion Editor, BOLA AKINBOADE brings to you some of the reason why more and more babes are using female condom.

WHAT IS A FEMALE CONDOM?
The female condom is a thin, soft, loose-fitting polyurethane plastic pouch that lines the vagina. It has two flexible rings: an inner ring at the closed end, used to insert the device inside the vagina and to hold it in place, and an outer ring which remains outside the vagina and covers the external genitalia. The penis is directed into the pouch through the ring at the open end, which stays outside the vaginal during intercourse.
The female condom was first made from polyurethane. This version is officially called the “FC Female Condom”. A newer version is made of nitrile rubber and called “FC2”. It is made from natural latex, the same material used in male condom. The newer nitrile condoms are less likely to make potentially distracting crinkling noises.
FC1 and FC2 are the only female condoms encouraged by the World Health Organization. They are sold under many brand names, including Reality, Femidom, Dominique, Femy, My femy, Protectiv and Care.

THE SOCIETY FOR FAMILY HEALTH ROLE
Female Condom has been growing in popularity ever since it was officially launched in Nigeria by the Society for Family Health 2 years ago. The Society for Family Health has also joined other developed countries in promoting the use of female condom. It is clear from studies and surveys carried out in Nigeria that there is the urgent need for additional effective dual protection prevention methods to protect women and couples from STIs, HIV and unintended pregnancy. Similar findings can be seen in countries all over sub-Saharan Africa. This suggests the need for additional products to increase the method mix. The female condom is an effective female-initiated method that can make a major contribution to prevention efforts globally. The Universal Access to the Female Condom Joint Programme (UAFC) is an ambitious programme that aims to make female condoms widely available by supporting a range of activities including advocacy, support for female condom programming and research and development (R&D). A partnership between four organizations (OxfamNovib, World Population Foundation, I+solutions and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the global UAFC programme has already secured funding from a range of donors. The R&D component is focusing on activities that will reduce the cost and promote choice through support to the development of new and emerging female condoms designs. Country programme activities include providing support for large scale female programming in Nigeria among other countries with plans to expand even further in the near future.

WHY MORE LADIES ARE NOW USING FEMALE CONDOM
Ever since the massive campaign of this female condom, it’s getting more acceptability on the scene as more and more now carries the female conduct in their purse. And there are a lot of reasons why women now prefers this condom.
MEN FACTOR: The number one reason is the Men factor. Quite a lot of men don’t like using the male condom during intercourse. They give a lot of reason why they don’t want to use the condom, this include reasons like; “It ruins the mood”, “A condom spoils my enjoyment of sex”, “If you really love me, you should trust me”, “I cant feel anything when I ‘m wearing condom” amongst other reasons. So the female condom helps a lady to protect herself anytime her partner refuses to use the male condom. It is more comfortable to men, less decrease in sensation than with the male latex condom.
Female condoms do not constrict the penis as do latex condoms. As a result, sensitivity of the male partner may not be substantially reduced.
OFFERS MORE PROTECTION: It offers greater protection; since the device covers both the internal and much of the external female genitalia, as well as providing a barrier between the male and female sex organs, it may offer greater protection against STIs. The female condom is 95% effective at preventing pregnancy when used correctly. Oil-based lubricants can be used with the female condom.
MORE CONVENIENT: it is more convenient to use. The female condom can be inserted well in advance of intercourse. It can be inserted up to 8 hours before intercourse so as not to interfere with the moment.
LESS ALLERGIC: The FC and FC2 female condoms are made of polyurethane and nitrile, which are less likely to cause an allergic reaction than latex. These materials can be used with oil-based as well as water-based lubricants. No special storage requirements are needed because polyurethane and nitrile are not affected by changes in temperature and dampness. In addition, these materials are thin and conduct heat well, so sensation is preserved.
STRONGER: Polyurethane is 40% stronger than latex. It is durable, strong, efficacious, or an effective alternative to the male condom.

DISADVANTAGES
The disadvantages are very minimal compared to its advantages. The major disadvantages of the female condom centered around one of the female condom’s advantages; coverage of the external female genitalia. This coverage had a decidedly negative impact on the device’s aesthetics. Other problems related to aesthetics include dislike of the appearance of the device, noise associated with use, size and partner resistant. Also difficulties associated with insertion or removal of the female condom, discomfort, messiness and inconvenience associated with use, and movement of the device during use. There are also a few cases of the penis slipping between the device and the woman’s body, and slippage and breakage of the device itself could happen.

WHERE TO GET IT
The female condom can be gotten from the Society for Family Health Centre, since they were actually the one that commenced the campaign for the “Universal Access to the Female Condom”. The Female condoms are also made available in most of the major hospitals around town. Apart from these places, the female condoms are also available in most of the upscale Pharmacy shops and supermarkets.
