CAROLINE EKANEM REVEALS HER BEAUTY SECRET

Spread the love

Caroline Ekanem-Danjuma needs little or no introduction. She was one of the promising actresses in Nollywood, before her career took another twist after she settle down into marital life and motherhood. Caroline who recently set up a record label is one of the most stunning personalities in Nollywood. She has been able to maintain her flawless and glowing skin, even after childbirth. She opens up to BOLA AKINBOADE on her beauty secret and how she has been able to maintain her lovely figure.

You are still as beautiful as ever, how were you able to maintain it?
Thank you very much. First and foremost let me say that I have peace of mind and that is probably what accounts for the fact that I am still beautiful. On the health side however, I eat lots of fruit and vegetables; drink lots of water, and reduce my intake of carbs. I really wish that I could say that I exercise everyday, but that won’t be true, as I am not an exercise person (General laughter)

What’s your beauty routine?
I have good genes, so I’m not overly concerned about cosmetics and all of that. However I ensure that I go for my facials twice a month; have my aromatherapy or hot stone massages at least once a week, and use the sauna regularly. Of course I make sure I scrub and exfoliate my skin regularly every week to remove dead cells. So that’s my beauty
routine in a nutshell.

If you have been given a weekend to do anything, anywhere, what will you do?
Quite simple actually. I’ll go somewhere exotic with my husband (just the two of us) and spend the whole time with him…anywhere…just as long as he’s with me. (General laughter)

Which part of the world do you shop for clothes and what are some of your favorite trendy boutiques?
There’s a shop I absolutely love in the UK called After Dark, they have the best dinner and evening outfits. Everything is beautiful and stunning. And I sometimes feel like a child let loose in a candy store anytime that I go there. (General Laughter)

Do you have a favorite designer, who is the person and why?
Wow! Wow! Wow! I have quite a few designers that I am crazy about. I love Oscar De La Renta because of the lovely and fabulous evening gowns that he makes; simply stunning! I love Eli Saab because he also makes glittery, beautiful dresses and pays painstaking attention to detailing. Valentino is also an all time favorite because I think he really understands what women like to wear especially what he does with the color red. For shoes I’m crazy about Manolo Blahniks and Christian Loubutoins and also Jimmy Choo bags. But you know what? I can also easily walk into H&M and get a five quid top. I think style should be distinctive and not necessarily about what’s in vogue and all that!

What is the one thing in your closet that you can’t do without?
I absolutely cannot do without my wedding and engagement rings; firstly because they were given to me by my darling husband and I’m emotionally attached to them; secondly because I personally designed these set by myself. They were especially given to me by my husband in commemoration of our fourth wedding anniversary. I wanted something
exceedingly unique, and actually sat down with a topmost diamond jewel designer abroad and had it specially put together. They are both set in platinum and have a combination of rubies, pink diamonds and yellow gold. So you see why this a very special and priceless item to me

Your style is ideal as every outfit you put on seems just perfect. What is your little secret when it comes to putting clothes together?
I really don’t have any secret when it comes to putting my clothes together. Over the years I have cultivated a style that is a mixture between chic and simple, so I never try too hard to make my outfits work for me. I’m also mindful of the clothes, colors and fabrics that best complement my frame, and I go for them. And that, I think should
also apply to every woman; know what works for you instead of trying to constantly fit into what’s in vogue.

What are your main concerns when you dress up?
My first concern when I dress up is comfort; off course this doesn’t always apply when I wear killer heels (general laughter), but more often than not, I make sure that I am comfortable in what I wear. Also I always try to make a statement with my outfits; whether it’s my shoes, accessories or clothes, something just has to stand me out! I don’t dress to blend in; I dress to stand out!

What won’t you be caught never wearing?
Wow! That’s kind of a hard question, and I’ll tell you why. Fashion is a constantly evolving phenomenon; what is a huge faux pas now can be a huge fashion statement in the next 10 years; so I am really careful of saying that I’d never wear this or I’d never hear that. That being said, I’d never be caught wearing leather from head to toe in Nigeria. Our climate simply doesn’t support it and personally I think people who wear leather here look a tad ridiculous! Oh! I’ll also never wear meat or one of those things that Lady Gaga wears to cause a stir

Do you have any beauty or fashion tips you would love to share?
Well this is majorly for the women; I have found that ordinary sugar can be quite effective when used as a home-made body and facial scrub and produces the most amazing results. Secondly I think people should never try too hard to squeeze into clothes smaller than them. For example if you are a size 10, please don’t try and squeeze into a size six outfit; it just looks a little too forced. Then I think people should also tone down on accessories, as they are meant to augment your outfit, not clash and drag the whole outfit down. No long dangling earrings, with long necklaces and an abundance of dangling bracelets on the same outfit; it’s just too much! Basically my advice would be just to keep it simple; like they say, less is always more. Understated elegance always wins out!
