A TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND: SAM LOCO EFE
It’s so sad Nollywood actor Sam Loco Efe passed so soon. He died on the night of Saturday, 6, 2011, while on a film set in Owerri, located in Imo State. A week after his death, most people have not gotten over the news of his death.
Sam Loco Efe distinguished himself as a rare talent for both TV and stage drama.
Nollywood was built on the strengths of stars like Sam Loco. He was an accomplished thespian and a master of his art. He understood the aesthetics of acting and was one of those who dominated the stage, because of his mastery of what he was doing. He was a truly renaissance man, a trendsetting actor and a public figure who pioneered modernism in linguistics. He carefully cultivated a cult following, laying an enigmatic persona on a sensitive level, with a cosmopolitan mind. The sensation Sam Loco created for himself, was because of the way he took himself to his arts and engaged his world. He revelled in flaunting his rustic, rural comedy with an urban feel. Infact, he could play any role he was given.
There were rough edges at the beginning of his career, but he certainly pulled through to become a household name. He dressed the way he wanted. He hated sophistication and formality. His lifestyle was Bohemian. And this sharp mind of his, stole the hearts of his fans.Sam Loco’s sense of humor was admired by millions of his fans. And today, we can think of a man who gained exceptional fame by not courting controversy. He acted effortlessly and resonated like a haunting bar of music.
He’ll surely be missed.

” I can confirm to you that star actor, Sam Loco Efe is dead. And Nollywood has lost a legend. I have all the details and we will be briefing you soon.”

” I got the sad news of Sam Loco Efe’s death yesterday (August 7, 2011). And I am boarding a morning flight to Owerri, Imo State, as we speak to be sure that everything is okay. I will miss his passion for his craft and dedication to the profession.”

” We lost a legend and a father. He was a colossus and his loss is colossal. It’s painful that he died on active service. He was a thespian that paid his dues in the industry. I will miss everything about him.”

” I will miss his sense of humor. He was highly detribalized. His death saddens my heart because he was very close to me right from the time we met at the University of Ibadan. He was a good actor and he hobnobbed with everybody. He really loved the profession. But I think the government should start taking care of people like him. I will definitely miss all the fun we had together.”

” I will virtually miss everything about him. He’s a personality. We called him Marshall. You don’t just get annoyed when you are with him. And he was a very intelligent man. I worked with him on several sets.”

“Sam Loco’s death is sad news. He was more of a father to us. I did my first movie, Gold Blood with Sam Loco Efe. He’s a fun-loving fellow.”

“Nollywood has lost a thoroughbred veteran. Sam Loco Efe was indeed a world class professional. He was a damn good actor. We are not done yet with the mourning of the late Ashley Nwosu and Christy Essien Igbokwe, yet we are hit with the sudden sad news. Though death is an inevitable end, this is one death too many for Nollywood. I think we need a special prayer session in Nollywood at times like this. Because we don’t know who is next. I think we need to pray urgently against terminal strange ailments and sudden deaths in Nollywood.”
