46 COUNTRIES SHOWCASES AT THE FIRST WORLD FASHION WEEK

The first annual of the World Fashion Week will be held in the City of New York in 2012. As a prelude to this historic and milestone event, the World Fashion Week Welcoming Gala will be hosted in New York, on November 11, 2011, at the prestigious Cipriani. The World Fashion Week is organised by the World Fashion Organization in partnership with International Trade Organization, Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Art of Living Foundation and fashion organizations from all over the world, supporting the United Nations Millennium Development Goals of halving global poverty by 2015.
This event will gather fashion Icons, influential leaders and international media from 5 continents, in a celebration of cultural diversity expressed through the artistic fashion discipline, launching the global campaign “Give your Light to the World” furthering the objectives of “Fashion for Peace“. The Welcoming Gala will officially welcome leading fashion designers and participating countries to the first annual World Fashion Week. The celebration will benefit the Art of Living Foundation, founded by H. H. Sri. Sri. Ravi Shankar, for their outstanding commitment to women empowerment and the eradication of global poverty, furthering social and human development in over 150 countries.

The Gala will honour world leading fashion designers, for their outstanding contribution and achievements dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of fashion, promoting creative leadership for artistic, technical and social achievements within the global fashion industry.

During this glamorous and historic evening, World Fashion Week will officially welcome leading fashion designers and models from Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Ivory Coast, Japan, Kenya, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and United States of America.

During this Welcoming Gala of the World Fashion Week, the nominated fashion designer from each participating country will present only one specially crafted haute couture garment. These garments will be ‘work of art’ of inestimable value and the most precious fashion collection of all times. After the New York event, these historic garments will be taken on a world tour in partnership with museums and fashion weeks around the world all the way to World Fashion Week 2012 Inaugural Ceremony. Afterwards, the annual event will be held in different countries in a continental bases, encouraging entrepreneurship activities and human development.

The World Fashion Week humanitarian mission is to globally expand the potential power of fashion; as a tool of fighting poverty, further develop economies, promote corporate, environmental and social responsibility within the fashion and textile industry, fostering human development, social integration, access to health and education, solidifying the vision “give your light to the world” which will in turn promote a shift in consciousness to a more unified, sustainable, fair and socially responsible global community, leading to peace.
Some of the high profile designers confirmed for the Welcoming Gala of the World Fashion Week includes Marc Jacobs representing USA, Prada – Italy, Stella Mccartney – England, Jonathan Saunders – Scotland, Yohji Yamamoto – Japan, Elie Saab – Lebanon etc.
Nigeria’s participation is coordinated by Legendary Gold Limited, organisers of the Nigeria Fashion Week which is an affiliate event to the World Fashion Week. According to Lexy Mojo Eyes, the designer representing Nigeria will soon be announced. ‘This is the biggest thing happening in the world of fashion and we are happy that we have been able to make sure that Nigeria is fully represented on this global stage’
