In a beauty culture that is obsessed with youth and looking a certain way, it’s refreshing to see that some of us still value ageless, classic beauties that have proven the truth of Coco Chanel’s words, “Fashion fades, but style is eternal.”
The clothing brands Vivella sponsored a poll asking which woman best exemplifies a style that has remained elegant and graceful throughout the years.
Dame Helen Mirren, who famously beat out Megan Fox as Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive, topped the polls for her sophistication and understated style. At 66, Mirren has also rocked little more than a Union Jack and got away with it.
“Dame Helen Mirren has as much style, grace and elegance off-screen as she does on it and is a fitting icon for the women of her generation. All too often we are bombarded with images of youth and temporary trends, so it’s great to see such a varied list filled with women of real class,” a spokesperson for Vivella said in a statement.
Indeed, the poll turned out a varied bunch of ladies who all epitomized unique style. The top five was comprised of the iconic Twiggy, actress turned activist Joanna Lumley, the incomparable Dame Judi Dench and 60s pop sensation,Lulu.
Of the women polled, 85 percent said they very rarely stay conscious about dressing for their age and actually feel proud of their bodies the older they get.
