FORMER SUPER EAGLES STAR STRIKER, RASHIDI YEKINI IS DEAD
Former Super Eagles Star Striker, Rashidi Yekini has died
inside his country home in Kwara State, following a protracted battle with a
yet to be disclosed mental ailment.
The famous star who scored Nigeria’s
first World Cup Goal in 1994 was moved from his Ibadan
residence to Kwara State
about 3 weeks ago, after traditional medicine practitioners failed to cure him.
EKING as he was known in his playing days in Portugal
had battled with depression and had become a recluse in the last 4 years.
One Sports analyst in Ibadan
said his condition got so bad that Rashidi alienated himself from everyone
including sports journalists, the FA, and his former teammates in the Super
Eagles.
Yekini, the source said often blamed his former teammates in the Super Eagles
for his problem. He particularly named Samsom Siasia, Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel
Omokachi and a few others for his predicament.
The late Rashidi was said to have sacked his family from their home as a result
of the depression and frustration he suffered.
The FA is yet to issue a statement on his demise.
