LAGOS MEDICAL DOCTORS COMMENCE STRIKE OVER PAY DISPUTE

Spread the love

 Medical
doctors in the employment of the Lagos State government Monday commenced an
indefinite strike over a protracted pay dispute and other workers related
issues. The doctors,
under the aegis of the Medical Guild, are seeking to stop the engagement of
doctors as casual workers as well as demanding the payment of doctors’ salaries
for May 2012 and from August to September 2014, which were withheld by
government when doctors went on strike.

In a reaction
to the industrial action, the state government described the action as illegal. The Lagos
State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba, in a
statement insisted that the doctors that embarked on the last industrial action
did not deserve pay as part of government’s “no work no pay policy.”
He directed
the aggrieved doctors to return to work while negotiations with the government
continues.
