COURT SACKS PINNICK AS NFF PRESIDENT

A Federal High Court sitting in Jos, the Plateau State capital, has
nullified the election which brought the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF
President, Amaju Pinnick and his board into office, and ordered Christopher
Giwa to take over. The court headed by Justice Musa Haruna Kurya nullified the election held
in Warri which brought Pinnick to power on Friday morning and Giwa has stated
that he will resume at the NFF office in Abuja immediately and name a new
board.

However, Pinnick, a former Delta State Sports Commission (DSSC) boss says
he will file for the court to temporarily suspend the judgment.
“This is not good for Nigerian football, we will file for stay of
execution,” Pinnick told a popular TV station after the ruling.
Nigeria risks a FIFA hammer for this latest development. FIFA had ruled
Giwa’s election invalid, mostly due to ineligible delegates, and ordered fresh
elections to be carried out. Amaju Pinnick subsequently emerged as NFF
president and Giwa had withdrawn a case challenging the result of the elections
when FIFA threatened to ban Nigeria.
But in January, after a meeting called by current sports minister, Solomon
Dalung aimed at reconciling the NFF descended into recriminations, he re-filed
his lawsuit.
