GONE TOO SOON! STEPHEN KESHI DIES FROM SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST
He was 54 years old. Keshi, who until his death was popularly called skippo, was born on 23 January 1962
His death occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Benin City, the Edo State capital just as he was planning to return to his base in the United States later that day.
Friends and close associates said that Keshi was in good health and had no previous heart problems before today’s unfortunate incident.
Keshi won 64 caps with the Super Eagles between 1981-95. He was also captain of the team that won the country’s second AFCON title in Tunisia in 1994 before the team went on to reach last 16 of 1994 World Cup in USA. Keshi had three stints in charge of Togo before taking over as Nigeria coach in 2011 after coaching Mali between 2008-10.
The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed the sad development with a series of tweets on its official Twitter handle.
The sad occurrence comes just about six months after his wife of over 30 years died in December last year, leaving him heartbroken.
