The federal government has taken delivery of COVID-19 vaccine samples from Russia. Alexey Shebarshin, Russia’s ambassador to Nigeria, delivered samples of the vaccine to the health minister Osagie Ehanire, at his Abuja office on Friday.

A statement by the Ministry’s Director of Information, Media, and Public Relations, Olujimi Oyetomi confirmed that the delivery was made by the Russian envoy during a visit to Abuja.

The statement added that the Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire has sent the vaccines to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, and the Nigeria Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development, and others for review.

Recall that when Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, announced they had approved a vaccine providing “sustainable immunity”, the World Health Organization, WHO said it would review the vaccine’s efficacy.
